Abstract
:
This study was conducted in south and north Jeddah regions to study the effects and relationship of cultural, economical and social variables of the residents on the domestic water tanks cleaning. Results revealed that more than one half of the residents were 46 years old and 16.33% were 35 or less. The educational level of the residents was as follows: more than 50% had secondary degrees or less, 20% had primary degree or less, while 42% of residents had university degrees or higher. Families of 7 members or more constituted 42.2% of the population and families of more than 5 members constituted 91.8%. Houses were distributed between south and north Jeddah with a percentage of 59% and 41% respectively. The higher, large houses constituted 44%, followed by villas (40%), then popular houses (16%). As for the house age, 18% of houses in the sample were from 16-20 years old, and 11% had more than 20 years. House tanks cleaning in 81% of houses was followed up by house residents, the rest by the house-keeper. Specialized companies were charged for cleaning 69% of the studied houses water tanks, unqualified individuals were in charge of 26%. Around 33.34% of the houses tanks were cleaned every 4 years or more, and only 4.76% were cleaned every 6 months. Time intervals of water tanks cleaning significantly and positively correlated with house type (r = 0.63), educational level of house resident (0.67). The correlation between house type and using specialized cleaning companies was 0.78, and between house age and time interval of cleaning was (- 0.54).
